Composite materials (TUNGSTIT®)

For electrical contacts and electrodes for electrical discharge machining

TUNGSTIT®, the tungsten-copper compound that really sparks.

TUNGSTIT® is a tungsten-copper composite containing 70 – 90% tungsten, produced in a powder metallurgy process with a fully fibre-free, fine-grained microstructure, high hardness and high modulus of elasticity. As an infiltrated composite, TUNGSTIT® due to its tungsten matrix exhibits a high arc erosion resistance and, thanks to copper as the infiltration metal, a higher electrical conductivity than tungsten.

Processing

TUNGSTIT® can be readily processed with carbide tools. Fine contours can easily break away if the cutting pressure is too high. A low feed rate or processing by means of grinding is therefore recommended for this heterogeneous material.
